Program Description

Description

Tune in to the Carroll County Public Library Facebook page for a live presentation with local author and artist Melinda Byrd. She has completed her book, Designing and Making Your Own Rya Rug, after eight years of research and writing. Join us to learn more about her amazing journey rediscovering this lost art. Back in the days of the Vikings, rya rugs provided warmth in the sleigh, the boat, and as the bed covering. The handcraft was "all the rage" in the USA in the midcentury modern era when Scandinavian design was featured in every popular magazine. In the late 1970s fashions changed and rya was nearly forgotten for 40 years. Melinda will be interviewed by Ted Zaleski. Tune in on Monday, May 18 at 7pm at https://www.facebook.com/carrollcountypubliclibrary/
