Mock Trial Camp is designed for students entering grades 6 -9. In this multi-day camp, students will learn about Mock Trial by taking on a legal case, either civil or criminal in nature, that challenges them to think critically about timely issues. Acting as attorneys and witnesses, students portray the defense or plaintiff/prosecution and are scored on their performances by the judges. Presented by Carroll County Public Library and Carroll County Public Schools.
Schedule:
- Day 1 - Monday, 7/14, 10am-3:30pm - Classroom instruction, Exploration Commons
- Day 2 - Tuesday, 7/15, 10am-3:30pm - Classroom instruction, Exploration Commons
- Day 3 - Wednesday, 7/16 (afternoon only, 1-3pm) - Final Arguments in Court
Program participants will:
- Further their understanding of the law, court procedures, and the legal system
- Increase their proficiency in soft skills such as listening, speaking, reading and reasoning; and
- Heighten their appreciation for academic studies as well as career consciousness of law-related professions
Students should register for the 7/14 session and plan to attend Monday, 7/14 and Tuesday, 7/15 at Exploration Commons and final arguments in court on the afternoon of Wednesday, 7/16. Caregivers and parents are encouraged to attend final arguments on Wednesday, 7/16. Full details will be emailed to registrants.
