Program Description

Description

It’s time for pumpkin and squash visitors in our gardens to smile and wink their way into our hearts again. Their trailing vines and giant happy green leaves now take a well-earned rest in the cool autumn mornings. The Carroll Garden Club, along with CCPL's Finksburg Branch, will provide program participants with the opportunity to see a collection of happy pumpkins and squash. Learn how these bumpy, sometimes lumpy, colorful fruits have brought smiles to the faces of anyone lucky enough to become friends with one of them.

Children will learn firsthand the characteristics and uses of these happy visitors. They will also create wild and crazy pumpkin and squash ‘garden beings’ using found natural materials from the forest floor, our vegetable and flower gardens, and even bits and pieces from Grandma’s sewing basket.

A show-and-tell will round out the activity, with each child sharing the story of their exciting pumpkin or squash friend. Their new friend will travel home with them to celebrate a wondrous new season of great pumpkins and squash.
