Program Description
Description
Over the last 20 years, there has been widespread recognition of the role honeybees play in our food chain and the diseases and loss of habitat which puts some bee populations at risk. The cultural trend supporting interest in local food and crafts, as well as in environmental issues has encouraged people from all walks of life to enter the field of beekeeping. Karen Henderson has been a beekeeper since 2013, and since 2018 is co-owner of GlassBee Apiary in Carroll County. She will speak about honeybee social organization, food and shelter requirements, the role of the beekeeper, and the current state of beekeeping in Maryland and beyond.
