Description

The National African American Read-In is the nation’s first and oldest event dedicated to diversity in literature. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. This initiative has reached more than 6 million participants around the world. The event is free and open to the public. Francis Scott Key band members will perform jazz standards in the gallery before the event starts.  

We are participating in the Maryland Commission on African American History & Culture (MCAAHC) Book Drive and will be collecting books that celebrate African American literature at this event. 

Presented by Carroll County Public Schools, Carroll County Public Library, and the Carroll County Arts Council. Proudly supported by Carroll County Education Association, Carroll Citizens for Racial Equity, Carroll County Branch of NAACP, Penguin Random House, and St. Paul's UCC.
