Program Description

Description

Join local author Amy Mathis to hear her discuss her father’s life and legacy in her book Like Saving Summer in a Jar, the Story of James "Jimmy" Mathis, a Strawbridge Boy. The Strawbridge Home for Boys (located in Sykesville) was a Methodist orphanage from 1924 – 1959. It would merge with two other Methodist orphanages and become the Board of Child Care Inc. in the 1960s. You will learn about the history of the home and the impact it had on its residents AND Carroll County's Sykesville community. Some of the local Strawbridge Boys will be joining Ms. Mathis to share their experiences growing up at the home.
