Program Description

Description

Join us for five nights of programming from the History Consortium on one of America’s favorite subjects, railroads.

Join history expert and keynote speaker Jim Shriver as he discusses the Western Maryland Railway. It was on June 15, 1861, that the blast of a train whistle was first heard in Westminster as the Western Maryland Railway arrived in town. This presentation explores the development and history of the line, its impact on Carroll County and the state of Maryland, and its place in the era of America’s railroad expansion. Following Mr. Shriver’s talk, David Hughes will present on his model railroad of the Western Maryland Railway.  Mr. Hughes was featured in the April 2021 issue of Model Railroader. This program is sponsored by the Historical Society of Carroll County.
